The Definition of a Pickup
 The term pickup lines has a bad rap because it is misunderstood. Hear what author Kenneth Scott has to say about his definition of a pickup:
"What is the definition of a pickup? To some, to 'pickup' a women means you meet someone and immediately sleep with her. But this is not what I mean at all. To me, a pickup is just when you met a girl without the aid of an introduction. There is nothing tacky or crass about a pickup, it just shows that you were assertive and confident enough to meet a women on your own.
"The term "pickup line" also has a very negative connotation to some. But to me, a pickup line can be anything that you use to strike up a conversation with a girl you are trying to meet. The pickup line could come in the form of a compliment, it could be something topical, or it my be something totally random. "Certainly there are traditional, silly pickup lines that guys use over and over, like, "what's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this," "if I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me," or the cheesy all-time classic, "what's your sign?" "The problem with repeated use of any pickup line is that you will sound like you are repeatedly using a line. This will not make the girl more interested in talking with you, and even if she thought you were cute and she did want to talk to you, where could the conversation go from there? "Your best bet is to just strike up a conversation as naturally as possible. Ask questions that will lead to further, just like you might with a friend."
